Benjamin Vanderwerff
Benjamin Vanderweff is a visual artist with a background in graphic design and a lifelong practice in drawing and painting. He works primarily as a plein air painter, exploring forests, rivers, and wilderness areas through large-scale acrylic, oil, and spray paint works—created entirely on location over multiple days.
His work focuses on direct observation and connection to place, using scale and time to deepen the experience of being in the landscape. Each piece is a record of presence and process, shaped by changing light, weather, and terrain.
Ben began drawing as a child and later earned a degree in graphic design, but fine art has remained central to his creative life. Now based again in the Skagit Valley, where he grew up, he continues to engage with the landscapes that first inspired his work.
