Ayla Mullen
Ayla Mullen is a studio potter based in Bellingham, Washington, whose work is rooted in a lifelong relationship with plants, landscapes, and the natural rhythms of the Pacific Northwest. Raised in a community of farmers and environmental activists in Olympia, Ayla grew up exploring old-growth forests and working on her family’s farm—formative experiences that continue to shape her artistic voice.
Her ceramic work captures the quiet elegance of nature—long, organic lines, the upward movement of grasses, and the grounding presence of earth. What began as a creative outlet while studying environmental studies at Marlboro College evolved into a calling, shaped by mentorships and apprenticeships across the country, including with potter Ellen Shankin in Virginia.
After completing a thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail in 2021, Ayla returned to Washington to put down new roots. Today, she creates ceramics that speak the language of land, life, and form.
